Fuerst Family Foundation to Help Rebuild Medical Mission Clinic Destroyed by Fire in Tecate

Contribution Underscores Foundation’s Commitment to Changing Lives

WEST COVINA, Calif.—Hundreds of individuals in Tecate, Mexico depend on a monthly medical clinic hosted by a team of doctors and nurses from California—but a fire in the clinic building this past fall forced the clinic outside or into cramped alternate quarters during inclement weather. Thanks to a donation from the Fuerst Family Foundation, work is underway to repair the clinic building and restore it to full working order.

“We are grateful to have the support of the Fuerst Family Foundation behind this project,” shared Beverly Glasgow, Treasurer for Kingdom Builders Ministry (KBM). “It’s incredible to be able to partner with the foundation to see practical needs met and lives changed for the better in Tecate.”

Started in 2014, Kingdom Builders Ministry’s goal is to make a difference in the underserved neighborhoods of Baja, Mexico by connecting volunteer groups from the U.S. with real needs and providing an opportunity for them to help.

After learning about the project through Robinson Baron, MD, a general surgeon in the City of Covina, Calif., Lisa Fuerst, Co-founder of the Fuerst Family Foundation and Vice President of Success Education Colleges (SEC), wholeheartedly supported funding the rebuild of the Mission Clinic. Her role with SEC’s system of ten allied health colleges means she understands firsthand the power of quality health services and the difference they can make in a community.

The Mission Clinic is staffed by a team of 40 medical professionals from two California hospitals, the clinic serves anywhere from 300 to 500 individuals and their families each month. For many, it is the only form of medical care they receive—making it even more crucial to have the right facilities in which to serve them.

“We are humbled to have the opportunity to ensure the residents of Tecate continue to receive these vital health care services each month,” shared Fuerst. “Our goal as an organization has always been to care for those who are marginalized—and we are honored to be a part of rebuilding the Mission Clinic which is doing exactly that.”
